Munford Police Department K9 Unit
|
The Munford Police Department’s K9 unit was officially established in 1999. In August 2010, the Munford Police Department purchased K9 kilo. Kilo originally came from California. K9 Kilo is a three year old Belgian Malinois and is a dual- purpose dog. Officer Amy Hugues was given the opportunity to become the K9 handler. This would make them the 5th K9 unit in history of the Munford Police Department. At the end of August, Officer Hugues and Kilo was sent to the Memphis Police Department to complete a 14 week Basic Canine Training Course. The course consisted of canine obedience, area searches, techniques for apprehension and patrol. K9 Kilo is also trained to detect marijuana, cocaine, crack, meth, ecstasy, and heroin. Officer Hugues and Kilo received their certification on November 12, 2010 through NNDDA, National Narcotic Detector Dog Association. |
