Mission Statement:
To promote the public health, safety, and general welfare; to secure safety from fire, flood, and other dangers; to prevent overcrowding and undue congestion; to enhance the character and economic stability of the city through proper growth; to encourage orderly and beneficial development for the citizens of Munford based on applicable objectives and policies; by guiding development in accordance with the following regulations and ordinances: Long Range Regional Land Use Plan, Regional/Municipal Subdivision Regulations, Regional/Municipal Zoning Ordinances, National Flood Insurance Rate Map and the Regional/Municipal Major Road Plan; and to address matters pertaining to the Building Inspector, Permitting and Code Enforcement.

The Munford Municipal-Regional Planning Commission gets its authority from Sections 13-4-301 through 13-7-309 of the Tennessee Code Annotated to regulate development within the Urban Growth Area designated to Munford, Tennessee.

It is also the policy of the Planning Commission to review plats of proposed subdivision developments and site plans of proposed new construction in order to ensure conformity to the Comprehensive Plan, the Long Range Regional Land Use Plan, the Transportation Plan, the Capital Improvements Program; and in the context of existing land use and development, population and traffic distribution, as well as the needs and best interests of the immediate community.

The State Local Planning Office out of Jackson, Tennessee has been retained to assist the Planning Commission with its purpose. Mr. Shelton Merrell of that office represents Munford and its planning region. He may be contacted at shelton.merrell@state.tn.us.

The Planning Commission meets every second Tuesday at the Munford Municipal Building, 69 College Street, in the Board Room at 6:30 pm. All items on the agenda must be submitted to the Planning Commission Secretary at Munford City Hall at least 14 days prior to the meeting.
