Steven,
The progress in Munford for 2006 was positive. Patriot Square Commercial Development was completed and Patriot Bank announced plans to build a branch in Munford in 2007. This commercial development is well situated on Highway 51 in the cluster of development along the highway. The prospects of retailers, restaurants, and service providers is exciting. In 2006, we worked with the USPS to realign the zip codes in South Tipton County to more accurately reflect the population and general area of Munford. Now, almost all homes west of Highway 51 in the Munford region has a Munford zip code. Also, Celebrate Independence, Celebrate Munford, and "Fill the Sleigh" Christmas Parade were successful.
Munford's greatest progress would be hard to express in one event, purchase, or project. We installed an automated meter reading system in our utilities department this year. This system will help improve overall efficiency for our customers. We also purchased a 105' aerial platform fire truck in 2006. Although this vehicle was purchased used, it poses good value for our citizens. As a result of this purchase and other factors, we will request an ISO review, in hopes of lowering insurance rates for our citizens. Centennial Park opened in 2006 with great success. Munford Parks and Recreation received the "New Facility Award" from the State of Tennessee for Centennial Park in 2006.
Munford is "My Kind of Town" and is increasingly the choice of families seeking to relocate to a small town environment. We will continue to enhance quality of life by our efforts to improve public safety services, infrastructure, and recreational opportunities.
It is always a challenge for a small town with limited resources to "keep up" but we continue to give our best effort. Barbara Dorn completed her second year as Director of Community Development in 2006. She continues to seek means to improve the quality of life for our citizens. Munford.com is being expanded and more features are available. Customers may pay taxes and utility bills on line, as well as register for various events and activities. We participated in Tipton County's successful effort to qualify for the Governor's Three Star Community program. We received a Community Development Block Grant for an additional elevated water storage tank. We also were the recipient of a USDA/Rural Development grant for downtown revitalization.
As residential growth and commercial development continue, Munford is increasingly attractive for families and businesses. We will continue to promote Munford as a great place to call home and do business. We will continue our efforts to attract retailers and medical related businesses to our town. Although there are many challenges ahead, the future of Munford is as bright as God's promises.
