The Munford Police Department's S.W.A.T. team was formed in May 2006.  The team consists of 6 members and is primarily used in: hostage situations, barricaded subjects, hazardous/drug arrest situations and other high risk activities requiring specialized services.  In today's turbulent times of Homeland Security issues, terrorist and local threats, the need for these specially trained officers is increasingly more in demand.  Each team member is cross-trained to handle a variety of weapons and assignments from spotter, scout, communications and lead.

We are fortunate to have officers trained as critical incident/hostage negotiators. These officers are instrumental in situations where the safety of hostages or innocent bystanders is paramount to prevent injury to these parties. These negotiators work hand in hand with the S.W.A.T. team to bring a peaceful resolution to stressful and often violent encounters.
