Canine Program

K-9The Munford Police Department is fortunate to have a Canine Program. The canine program is an old, but new program for the department. Times and belief of the people often effect the way the policing is done. Currently the police are very aggressive on the detection of illegal drugs in our city, and the prosecution of those found to have illegal drugs. The asset of a trained canine team to detect illegal drugs saves time and money. A trained canine team can detect odors that an officer may not smell and often find illegal drugs in hidden compartments in vehicles and buildings that may be missed by the officer.  Munfordīs canine dog, Sig, was received from the Drug Task Force. Sig has been working for law enforcement for about 6 years and placed in the top 10 in National competition before the City received him. Sig is a black, male, labrador retriever born in 1994.  Munfordīs Canine Handler is Officer Bert Zickefoose, and he started with the department in 1995. Officer Zickefoose received his State qualification to serve as a law enforcement officer in January of 1998. He has also received additional training in criminal street and workplace gangs, and highway and domestic drug interdiction. Officer Zickefoose and Sig have been working together since May of 2000, and team up to help with the detection and prosecution of those found to have illegal drugs in our city.

Emergency Response Team

The Munford Police Department and The Atoka Police Department have a combined Emergency Response Team that is primarily used in hostage situations, barricaded suspects, hazardous/drug arrest situations and all other high risk activities that may require specialized services.

The Munford Police Department has recently formed a Tracking Team. We have two officers, Patrolmen Gary Ezell and Mark Daugherty, trained in the fading art of man tracking. These officers will be utilized in the search for missing children, alzheimerīs patients, etc. They will also be instumental in the efforts to locate fugitives from justice. Both are members of the Mountain Trackers Association.
