The School Resource Officer Program is fundamentally a Community Policing Program that encompasses a triad approach to Law Enforcement in the school setting.  The primary job of the SRO is Law Enforcement, but in addition to the duties of a police officer, the SRO must also be able to provide Law Related Education, and serve as a counselor when needed.

The goals of the SRO program in Munford are to:

      1.Increase the safety and security of the Schools

      2.Reduce school crime and violence

      3.Provide Law Related Education

      4.Promote awareness of the duties and responsibilities of the police

      5.Act as a liaison between the school and law enforcement

Officer Hudson can be found at Munford High School on most school days during the school year, but she also spends some time at Munford Middle School, and visits the Elementary School on a call out basis.

Guest Lectures:

      Traffic Safety:Target groups 10th  - 12th grade - Components of being a safe driver: how alcohol, drugs and attitude affect your driving ability

      Child Abuse and Neglect:    Target group Junior and Senior High School, Teachers and Parents - Defines child abuse and neglect, the different types of abuse and warning signs and symptoms to watch for

      Sexual Assault / Date Rape Prevention:Target Age Group 7th - 12th grade students (boys and girls)  - Defines sexual assault and date rape, covers the myths and facts of sexual assault, some common drugs used to disable victims, and offers some suggestions for personal safety

      Science and Policing - Forensics:Target group 6th - 12th grade science classes - Discussion of Forensic science as it applies to police work

      The Constitution, Bill of Rights:Target group High School Students, Parents, Teachers and Administrators - Examines a citizens rights as laid out in the first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution

      Open Forum:Target group all ages Elementary thru High School - Open question and answer session for students to learn about police work and become familiar with the SRO concept

      Drugs and Alcohol Prevention:Target all ages 3rd - 12th grade - Discussion of different types of drugs, huffing, and alcohol  - group participation encouraged

      Personal Choices / Proper Behavior in School:Target group middle and high school Special Population Students - Brief lecture followed by question and answer period covers school rules, Harmful speech, harassment, etc. with an emphasis on the consequences of inappropriate behavior.

SRO assisted conflict resolution:offers students an alternative to settling problems - goal is to reduce fights, violence, office referrals and possible legal actions

Advisory sessions with students:allows the student to come in and ask questions about law related issues such as traffic laws, drivers licenses etc., family issues, and problems at school

Referrals System:For crisis interventions, school disciplinary problems, truancy, DCS interventions etc.  to insure that the student gets the appropriate attention where needed

Parent  Conferences:to allow the parents the opportunity to become familiar with the SRO program, and answer questions about law related issues such as truancy etc.

Cougar Vision and Cougar Paper Interviews for students:allows the student to ask questions about school related issues such as parking, school violence, crime etc.

Special Events Attendance:Football and Basketball Security at home games, School Dances - Middle and High School Level, College and Career Night, GBT Class Skeet Shoot - Safety observer, Choir:Christmas Concert

Other events as needed - i.e. school assemblies, baseball games, and graduation

Student Safety Committee:

      SRO sponsored

      30 Student representatives and 1 staff member / co-sponsor

      Can make recommendations to the Administration

      Identify safety or security concerns

      Peer consultation: Committee members speak on Cougar Vision about issues affecting the student population such as Drugs and Alcohol, Traffic Safety etc. 

      The mission of the Student Safety Committee is to promote Safety Awareness in both Munford High School and the community.
